Lorax -- with a handprint mustache

This week has been all about the Lorax.

The Lorax' impassioned pleas on behalf of the Brown Barbaloots, the Swommee Swans and the Humming Fish fit well with our discussions of keeping the earth clean and beautiful.

We started by reading The Lorax.

I felt that it was important that the kidlets knew that this was a book before it ever became a movie.

And that they knew that The Lorax was a half hour cartoon before it was a movie. So, both kindergarten classes had a picnic lunch (eating on the floor) and watched  the original cartoon.

One of my kidlets painted a picture of The Lorax on the screen.

However good (or not - I have not seen it) the new Lorax is, I wanted the kidlets to experience this version in all it simplicity and authenticity.

Teacher Tom wrote a powerful post about greed, the book of The Lorax and the new movie.

We made some Loraxes to remind ourselves that ...

Unless someone like [us] cares a whole awful lot
Then nothing is going to get better - it's not

Trace the hand on a folded piece of yellow construction paper.

Add the cut out mustache to rest of the Lorax "ingredients".

orange rectangle 6" x 7.5"
2 white rectangles 1.25" x 1.5"
yellow pom pom
handprint mustache

Cut, glue and add embellishments.

Kid handprints make the best Lorax mustaches ever.
